About the author

HI, I'M
CHARLIE.

I'm 23. I work full-time. I'm a person who fell in love with the gym, with discipline, and with the kind of life you build by showing up.

My story

I FELL ON MY FACE A LOT TO FIGURE THIS OUT.

I started lifting because I wanted to look better. That was it. No deeper why. Just the same surface-level reason most people start. And for a while, that was enough to get me into the gym a few days a week.

Then life happened. Long workdays, family stuff, social drift. I'd miss a session. Then a week. Then I'd come back hard and burn out two months later. Rinse, repeat, for years. I knew the cycle by heart. I just didn't know how to break it.

What changed wasn't a new program or a more intense workout. It was a slow realization that everything I was reading about fitness was treating it like a project with a finish line — and that's exactly why nothing was sticking. Health isn't a project. It's an identity. You don't finish it. You become someone who lives it.

I started building habits I could actually sustain. I started caring about sleep, recovery, and the boring stuff nobody posts about. I started reading and researching as much as I possibly could. I started writing down what worked and why.

Eventually I had enough to share. Not as a guru — I'm not one. But as a person who had been exactly where most people are, and had found a way through that wasn't built on willpower or perfection. That's how the book and the accounts started. That's what Built By Bemis is.

Why I wrote this book

BECAUSE NOBODY TOLD ME THE THINGS THAT WOULD'VE SAVED ME YEARS.

Most fitness content is either a workout plan or a meal plan. Useful, sure. But neither answers the actual problem: why does the motivation always run out? Why do we keep restarting? Why does this thing that should be a normal part of being alive feel like a constant uphill battle?

Beyond Motivation is the book I wish someone had handed me at 18. Seven chapters, each built on a foundational principle, applied directly to health and fitness. Ownership. Vision. Habits. Designing your life. Awareness. Environment. Renewal.

It's not a workout program. It's the operating system underneath the workout program. The part that actually determines whether you'll still be at it in five years.

A note on credentials

I'm not a certified trainer.

I'm not a certified personal trainer, physical therapist, nutritionist, or registered dietitian. Everything I share comes from personal experience, not professional credentials. Always consult a qualified professional before starting a new program.

I share this upfront because I'd rather you know exactly what you're getting from me: the perspective of someone who has been in your shoes, not the prescription of someone with a degree. Both have value. They're just different things.
